DirecTV Delivers Local HD Channels To Subscribers in Lafayette

DirecTV has launched local high-definition programming to its subscribers in the Lafayette, Louisiana market today. DirecTV has added local HD channel in 151 cities including Lafayette. DirecTV customers will receive following local HD channels :

WLFI/CBS

WTTV/CW

WXIN/FOX and

WTHR/NBC

Including Lafayette, DirecTV offers local HD in 125 cities, which represents more than 89 percent of U.S. TV households.

DirecTV subscribers must have an H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish to receive these new local HD channels.

Dish Network Launches Local HD in More Markets

Dish Network has announced the launch of local high-definition channels in three more markets. Dish Network claims that the satcaster offers local HD channels in 90 markets, which represents 78 percent of U.S. TV households. The new HD stations available are:

KBMT – The NBC affiliate in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas

WDBD – The Fox affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi and

WPMI – The NBC affiliate in Mobile, Alabama

Dish Network brings Young Broadcasting Local Networks Back

It’s not sure that an agreement has been reached between Dish Network and Young Broadcasting. The eleven stations which went off the air on Dish Network broadcast has returned. Earlier the sat caster blamed Young Broadcasting stating that Young is seeking more compensation for the networks and dropped them. Without any official news, today all the stations are added to Dish broadcasting programming line-up.

Dish Network Withdrew Local Stations in 11 markets

Dish Network’s negotiation with Young Broadcasting has failed and the satcaster has removed Young’s local broadcast networks in 11 markets. Dish Network’s contract with the operator has ended on Dec.10 and negotiation to renew the contract has failed to reach an agreement. The reason for the failure was due to Young broadcasting seeking more price to carry the network. Dish subscribers won’t see Young’s broadcast in following cities:

Albany, N.Y

Davenport, Iowa

Green Bay, Wis

Knoxville, Tenn

Lafayette, La.

Lansing, Mich

Nashville, Tenn

Rapid City, S.D.

Richmond, Va.

San Francisco

Sioux Falls SD

DirecTV Adds Local HD Broadcast in Fort Wayne, Indana

DirecTV has been adding local HD channels in many cities in recent past and now the satcaster has launched in the Fort Wayne market area on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

DirecTV subscribers with H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish in Fort Wayne, Indiana area will receive following local broadcast networks in high-definition:

WPTA/ABC

WANE/CBS

WISE/NBC and

WFFT/FOX

The satcaster now offers local HD broadcast channels in 115 cities, representing more than 87 percent of U.S. TV households.

DirecTV has launched local HD channels on Thursday, Nov. 6, to its subscribers in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. DirecTV subscribers in Fort Smith with an H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish will receive following broadcast channels in high-definition:

KFSM/CBS

KHBS/ABC

KNWA/NBC and

KFTA/FOX

DirecTV now has added local HD channels in 109 cities and planning to deliver in more cities before the year end.

Time Warner Cable Adds WNLO in HD

Time Warner Cable has announced that it will carry the local CW affiliate owned by LIN TV, WNLO-TV in high-definition on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The cable operator will add WNLO in HD as part of the retransmission deal that LIN and Time Warner. Comcast has added three new high-definition channels in Augusta, Georgia last week. Comcast has also announced that they are lining up many new HD channels and could be added very soon. FOX News Channel HD, FX HD and SPEED HD are the three new HD channels launched.

New subscribers in 52 markets will receive all standard and high definition programming in the MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding Standard, which provides the best picture quality on any TV. Dish Network has announced the 52 designated markets in the eastern half of the U.S which will be delivered with the most advanced delivery system on all televisions connected to DISH Network service.

With launch of local HD in Savannah, the satcaster has launched HD broadcast channels in 98 cities, representing more than 83 percent of U.S. TV households. DirecTV also have plans to end the year with launch of local HD’s in 121 cities covering 88 percent of U.S. TV households.
